Color Reflections Creates Unique Experience For Dilworth Park Ice Skaters
The holidays wouldn’t be the same in Philadelphia’s Center City without the Christmas Village and ice skating rink in Dilworth Park. This year, the typical string lights were replaced with “North Sky,” an aerial installation created by Lucky Dog Studio with the help of Color Reflections.
Hovering high above Rothman Rink, North Sky was inspired by the transitioning hues of the aurora borealis. Our Color Reflections Philly team provided 2500 double-sided, mirror-laminated styrene that, combined with color and light, would emulate how rays refract through the ice, creating a kaleidoscope effect as the day transitions to twilight.
These reflective pieces were then systematically hand-assembled to 52 cables stretching over 3000 feet. The lighting experience consisted of 30 DMX-controlled fixtures with high-power LEDs individually programmed to blend and create a moving, liquid-like effect. This original installation truly showcased the beauty and magic of the winter sky.
