Winter Window Graphics Installation Transforms Thomas Jefferson University Hospital

Project Spotlight: Hospital Window Graphics Installed in Winter

Thomas Jefferson University Hospital set out to transform an entire city block of windows into a bold branding and wayfinding experience. The timeline left little flexibility, with installation scheduled during the cold winter months.

To meet the deadline, the project required a graphics partner capable of producing and installing large-scale window graphics that would perform reliably in winter conditions—while balancing brand impact, patient privacy, and installation performance.

The Challenge

Installing window graphics during winter presents unique challenges.

Located in the heart of Philadelphia, Thomas Jefferson University Hospital wanted to install large-format window graphics that would visually tell their story while improving wayfinding and strengthening brand visibility.

The project also aligned with upcoming citywide celebrations for the United States’ 250th anniversary, giving the hospital a clear timeline. To meet the goal of completing the installation before the end of 2025, the installation would need to move forward despite cold weather conditions.

For wide-format window graphics, cold temperatures can impact both materials and installation processes—making planning and product selection critical to the project’s success.

The Requirements

The hospital envisioned the graphics as both a branding and wayfinding initiative. The long wall of windows along Chestnut and 10th Street presented a unique opportunity to bring the hospital’s brand down to street level, creating a more welcoming and accessible presence in the surrounding community.

“We wanted to build consistency and recognition across our sites. The continuous wall of windows along Chestnut and 10th Street gave us a perfect canvas for telling our story with clarity and impact,” said Grace Mateja, Jefferson Enterprise Art Director.

Privacy was equally important. Some of the windows faced sensitive patient care areas where maintaining discretion was essential.

“As care providers, our staff and patients require privacy in sensitive areas. This was essential,” Mateja added.

The final solution needed to combine strong branding, intuitive wayfinding, privacy protection, and the ability to install during winter conditions.

The Solution

The installation along Chestnut Street used a strategic combination of opaque, semi-opaque, and translucent window graphics. This layered approach allowed the design to deliver clear visual messaging while providing privacy where needed.

To support winter installation, the project incorporated cold-weather-capable materials including perforated window film and specialty vinyl designed to perform reliably in low temperatures.

“It’s great to have products we can install in cold temperatures,” said Eric Berger, President of Color Reflections. “We completed the initial installation just before Thanksgiving, with an additional installation in mid-January. Being able to install during winter allowed us to meet the hospital’s timeline without waiting for warmer weather.”

By pairing the right materials with experienced installation teams, Color Reflections delivered a cohesive window graphics solution that met branding, privacy, and scheduling goals—without compromise.

The Results

Today, the hospital’s windows along Chestnut and 10th Street have been transformed into a large-scale storytelling canvas that strengthens Jefferson’s brand presence while improving the experience for visitors and patients.

The project demonstrates how thoughtful planning, advanced production capabilities, and experienced installation teams can successfully deliver large-format graphics—even in challenging winter conditions.
